“7 Years on Dialysis — Now I Fight for Others Who Can’t Fight Alone”

Through God’s Grace — My 7 Year Journey With Kidney Disease and Why I Now Fight For Others
My name is Elly Anderson, from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Seven years ago, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) — one of the most silent yet deadly conditions a person can face.
Since then, I have been on dialysis at Muhimbili National Hospital — Tanzania’s largest and most respected hospital. Three times a week, I am connected to a machine that does what my kidneys can no longer do — clean my blood and keep me alive. Without it, I would not be here today.
The Struggle Nobody Talks About
Living with CKD is not just a physical battle. It is financial. It is emotional. It is spiritual.
There were days I could not afford my dialysis session. Days I had no money for medicine. Days I was admitted to hospital with no certainty I would walk out. Days I questioned everything.
But through every dark moment, Almighty God carried me. When I had nothing, He made a way. When I was weak, He gave me strength. I am living proof that with faith, nothing is impossible.
Why I Am Raising This Fund
Surviving changed me. It opened my eyes to the suffering around me that most people never see.
At Muhimbili National Hospital, I see it every day — children, young kids, fighting CKD with no strength left. Families in Tanzania selling everything they own just to keep their loved one alive for one more week. Patients who miss dialysis sessions not because they choose to, but because they simply cannot afford to go. And missing even one session can be fatal.
Tanzania has very limited dialysis centers. The waiting lists are long. The costs are heavy. And for many families — especially those with sick children — there is simply no safety net.
I cannot look away. I will not look away.

A Message From My Heart
I did not choose this disease. But I choose what I do with my story.
God kept me alive for a reason. I believe that reason is to stand up for those who are too sick, too tired, or too poor to stand up for themselves. To be someone’s miracle the way others were mine.
If you have ever been helped in your darkest moment, you know how powerful it feels. Today I am asking you to be that person for someone else.
Please donate whatever you can. Please share this with your family, friends, church, mosque, and community across Tanzania and around the world. You may never meet the child whose life you save — but God will know.
Together, with faith and love, we can carry each other through.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
