I am Elly Anderson, born and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I am a fighter, a survivor, and above all — a believer in the grace of Almighty God.
Seven years ago my life changed completely when I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). My kidneys failed. And from that day, my survival has depended on a dialysis machine at Muhimbili National Hospital — Tanzania’s largest hospital — three times every single week.
Three times a week. Every week. For seven years. That is over 1,000 dialysis sessions just to stay alive.
What Dialysis Really Feels Like
Most people do not know what dialysis truly means. Let me tell you.
Every session lasts 4 hours. A machine is connected to my blood through a catheter in my chest. It pulls my blood out, cleans it, and puts it back — doing the work my kidneys can no longer do.
It is painful. It is exhausting. It takes everything from you physically, emotionally and financially.
There were days I had no money for transport to the hospital. Days I could not afford my medicine. Days I was admitted to the ward with no certainty I would go home. Days I lay on that hospital bed wondering if this was the end.
But every single time, Almighty God made a way. Every single time, He carried me through. I am living proof that with faith, nothing is impossible.

Dialysis keeps me alive — but it is not living. A kidney transplant is the only real cure for my condition.
