Help For Keagan After His Accident

On 7 September 2024, my son, Keagan Robertson, was in a terrible car accident on his 21st birthday—a day we will never forget. Keagan was a passenger in the vehicle, and by the time my husband and I reached him, he was unconscious and bleeding from the back of his head. We rushed him to the hospital, but without medical aid we were extremely stressed, borrowing from everyone we could to cover the costs of his care. After CT scans and X-rays, we learned that Keagan’s brain had shifted, was swelling, and there was bleeding—he needed emergency brain surgery. He also couldn’t move the right side of his body. We were fortunate to get him transferred to a good hospital where he was placed on life support and underwent emergency surgery. He had a craniotomy, with the bone flap placed in his stomach to allow it to heal and to give his brain time for the swelling to go down. Keagan was put into an induced coma and stayed on life support for two weeks, battling high fevers while doctors worked to reduce the swelling. Eventually, he came off life support, but he was confused, unable to talk, walk, or do anything on his own. My husband and I cared for him at home, with his brain only protected by his scalp—an incredibly stressful situation requiring extra caution. We taught him to talk and walk again and got him into speech, physical, and occupational therapy, all at our own expense. In May 2025, Keagan returned to the hospital to have the bone flap put back in place, and the operation went well. He continues to heal, but as the brain takes at least four years to recover, we still have a long road ahead We have so much debt now that we are trying to find the funds to pay for everything. Keagan his battling now with his traumatic brain injury, this means that he suffers with headaches, remembering things, he has anger issues (goes from 0-10 in seconds he walks with a limp and does not have full use of his right hand. Keagan has been unable to work so all this falls on his dad and myself. I have been Keagan's full-time carer so I have not been able to work either as he needs full time care. Keagan is an amazing person who continues to fight every day, and he has shown us that giving up is not an option. Please consider helping Keagan the amount we are asking for is just a small amount to help pay off the debt that has accumulated. This does not include his expenses he needs to survive daily/monthly.
