Reading Lenses is a community-based organization working in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, to promote literacy, education, and lifelong learning among children and youth. Through our research and engagement with schools, students, and communities, we discovered a significant challenge: many children have limited access to curriculum textbooks, course books, and supplementary reading materials that support learning in Kenyan schools.
Without access to these essential resources, many students struggle to keep up with their studies, develop reading skills, and achieve their academic potential. Libraries are either unavailable or lack the books required to support the Kenyan curriculum.
To bridge this gap, Reading Lenses is launching a campaign to build and equip community libraries with curriculum-approved textbooks, course books, storybooks, reference materials, and digital learning resources aligned with Kenya's education system. These libraries will provide safe and accessible learning spaces where children and youth can read, study, research, and grow.
