Kokoda is a rural district located just 96km from Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. It is world-renowned as the home of the historic Kokoda Trail, a destination that draws tourists and trekkers from across the globe each year.
Yet despite this global recognition, very little of the economic benefit from tourism reaches the local community. Kokoda continues to face limited infrastructural development and few opportunities for its young people. Without access to training, employment, or clear pathways forward, many youths are left vulnerable — increasingly drawn into negative influences from social media and, in some cases, criminal activity, simply due to a lack of alternatives.
This project seeks to change that narrative.
Our goal is to provide the vulnerable youth of Kokoda with real opportunities to build and strengthen their professional and life skills — equipping them with the tools they need to find meaningful employment or start their own small and medium enterprises (SMEs). By investing in their potential, we aim to create a pathway out of vulnerability and into self-sufficiency, dignity, and long-term community growth.
