Seeds Before the Storm: Protect 500 Farming Families in Mutare Rural from El Niño
Every planting season begins with hope. For thousands of smallholder farmers in Mutare Rural, Zimbabwe, that hope is increasingly threatened by climate change. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and prolonged dry spells are making it harder for families to grow enough food to feed themselves and earn an income. Forecasts point to another challenging El Niño season. Without timely support, many households risk crop failure, hunger, and deeper poverty. But this crisis is preventable. At Resilience Societies of Zimbabwe (RSZ), we believe the best humanitarian response is to help communities prepare before disaster strikes. Instead of waiting until families lose everything, we want to equip them with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to withstand the coming season.
Our Goal
We are raising US$25,000 to support 500 vulnerable farming households in Mutare Rural with practical climate resilience interventions before the planting season.
Your donation will help provide:
• Drought-tolerant seed packs suitable for dry conditions.
• Climate-smart agriculture training.
• Water harvesting techniques for conserving scarce rainfall.
• Early warning and seasonal climate information.
• Demonstration plots where farmers can learn resilient farming practices.
• Ongoing technical support from trained field facilitators.
These interventions will help families produce food despite increasingly difficult weather conditions while strengthening long-term resilience.
Why This Matters
More than 70% of Zimbabwe's rural population depends on rain-fed agriculture for food and income. When rains fail, families lose more than crops—they lose school fees, savings, livestock, nutrition, livelihoods, and hope. By acting before the drought intensifies, we can help prevent humanitarian crises rather than simply responding to them.
Your Impact
Every contribution makes a difference.
• US$15 provides drought-tolerant seed for one farming household.
• US$35 equips one family with seed and climate-smart farming training.
• US$75 supports water harvesting and practical resilience measures for one household.
• US$150 helps train a lead farmer who will share knowledge with neighbouring families.
• US$500 establishes a community demonstration plot benefiting an entire village.
No donation is too small. Together, small acts of generosity create lasting change.
Transparency and Accountability
RSZ is committed to responsible stewardship of every donation. Throughout the campaign, supporters will receive regular updates, photos, beneficiary stories, and progress reports showing how funds are being used and the impact achieved in Mutare Rural.
