Hunger, Sickness, and Homelessness: A Call to Action for Consuelo

Every day in Consuelo, children and families wake up with empty stomachs, fragile health, and little hope. Behind every statistic lies a heartbreaking reality:

  • 1 in 5 children in our community faces chronic malnutrition.
  • Families with special-needs children often live in extreme poverty, unable to afford both food and medical care.
  • The homeless population continues to grow, with many going days without a single proper meal.

At the Foundation for Psychopedagogical Development – For Love of Josué, we see these struggles firsthand. We work daily with children who not only battle conditions like autism, Down syndrome, and hydrocephalus, but also hunger and neglect. A child cannot thrive, learn, or even heal if their basic need for food is unmet.

We remember one little boy with microcephaly who came to us severely underweight. His mother, struggling to provide, admitted that some nights she gave him water mixed with sugar just to keep him from crying of hunger. Stories like his are not rare — they are the painful reality for many in our community.

Our Story

Who We Are

The Foundation for Psychopedagogical Development – For Love of Josué is a non-profit organization dedicated to caring for, educating, and protecting children with special conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, congenital malformations, hydrocephalus, microcephaly, and other developmental challenges.
We serve children in the municipality of Consuelo and surrounding communities, providing them with the opportunities and support they deserve.

Where Our Passion Began

In 2007, María Ramírez — president and founder of the foundation — visited a friend whose son, Josué, had special needs. María noticed that Josué was not attending school. When she asked why, his mother explained that no public or private institution would accept him because of his disabilities.

This moment deeply impacted María. She realized there were no centers in the community that supported children like Josué. From that day forward, she carried the conviction:
“In our community, there must be a place for special children.”

Our Beginnings

By 2013, María felt God’s calling to work with children with disabilities. She began by conducting field research and soon discovered the large number of children with special conditions in the community. She also observed their struggles: poor nutrition, lack of healthcare, and a generally low quality of life.

Understanding the urgent need, María envisioned a center that would provide these children with care, education, and opportunities for development. From this vision, the proposal for the foundation was born.

Our Milestone

On December 31, 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and while following all health protocols, the Psychopedagogical Development Center – For Love of Josué was officially inaugurated.

This center was created with a clear mission:

  • To dedicate itself to the well-being of children with special needs.
  • To break down the barriers of inequality that have long excluded them.
  • To provide not only basic care and support, but also education, training, and a safe space for growth and inclusion.

✨ Today, the foundation continues to stand as a beacon of hope, love, and opportunity — ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, receives the dignity, care, and education they deserve.

Together, We Can Bring Hope to the Most Vulnerable

In the heart of Consuelo, countless children and families face struggles most of us can’t imagine. Children with autism, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, and other special conditions often go without the care and education they deserve. Families living in poverty face hunger daily. And many sick and homeless individuals in our community are left behind, unseen, and unsupported.

At the Foundation for Psychopedagogical Development – For Love of Josué, we believe no one should be forgotten. Since our humble beginnings, our mission has been simple: to provide love, care, and opportunity where there is none.

But we cannot do this alone. Every day, we see the impact of poverty on vulnerable lives — children going without proper nutrition, parents unable to provide, and homeless neighbors with empty stomachs and nowhere to turn. We want to change that. With your help, we can provide meals, medical care, and hope to those who need it most.

How You Can Make a Difference

💚 $10 can feed a child for a day.
💚 $50 can provide a week of meals for a family.
💚 $100 can bring food and basic supplies to homeless neighbors in crisis.

Every donation, no matter how small, is a seed of hope. Together, we can break down barriers, restore dignity, and show the sick and homeless that they are not forgotten.

👉 Donate today and join us in bringing light and love to the darkest corners of our community.

Because every child deserves a full stomach. Every family deserves hope. And every person deserves to be cared for.
