Life can change in an instant. Just a few years ago, we had worked hard to build a stable life. We owned a car, a truck, and a small piece of land. Everything we had was earned through years of dedication and sacrifice.
In 2018, everything began to fall apart. Financial difficulties forced us to sell both our truck and our car just to survive. We hoped things would improve, but instead they became even harder.
Then, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. I lost my job, and the little savings we had disappeared trying to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. Since then, finding stable employment has been incredibly difficult. At 51 years old, opportunities that provide a living wage in KwaZulu-Natal are extremely limited.
Today, we are doing everything we can to stay hopeful, but we need a helping hand.
